SWEDISH MEATBALLS (SVENSKA KOTTBULLAR)

Ingredients : 

2 slices of day-old white bread crumbled
½ cup heavy cream
1 tsp butter
1 small onion, minced
⅔ pound ground beef
⅓ pound finely ground pork
1 egg
1 tablespoon brown sugar (Optional)
1 tsp salt
¼ tsp ground black pepper
¼ tsp ground nutmeg
¼ tsp ground allspice
⅛ tsp ground ginger (Optional)
1 tablespoon butter
¼ cup chicken broth
3 tbsp all-purpose flour, or as needed
2 cups beef broth, or as needed
½ (8-ounce) container of sour cream

Directions : 

1) Set the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees C).
2) Mix the cream with the bread crumbs in a small bowl. Allow to stand for 10 minutes or until crumbs have absorbed the cream.
3)In the meantime, melt 1 tsp of butter in a pan over medium heat. Cook and stir onion for about 10 minutes or until light brown. Add onion to a basin for mixing.
4)In a mixing bowl, combine onion, ground beef, ground pork, brown sugar, salt, black Pepper, nutmeg, allspice, and ginger. Add cream and bread crumbs and combine just.
5) Over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a big skillet. For each meatball, pinch out roughly 1 1/2 tbsp of the meat mixture. Place the meatballs in the skillet and cook for about 5 minutes, often stirring, until browned. The meatballs’ inside will still be pink. Browned meatballs should be put in a baking dish with chicken stock and covered with foil after browning.
6) About 40 minutes should pass in the preheated oven before the meatballs are tender. Transfer the meatballs to a serving platter.
7) Over medium heat, pour pan drippings into a saucepan. Until smooth, stir flour into drippings. Whisk in approximately 2 1/2 cups of beef broth at a time. For around 5 minutes, whisk continuously as you boil the gravy to thicken it.
8) Stir in sour cream right before serving. Add salt and black Pepper to taste. Serve meatballs with gravy.
